The Doorman is often seen standing by the entrance of the Hotel Laplace. Despite his intimidating appearance, he is fairly reserved, generally keeping to himself unless provoked. He doesn't remember where he came from, or how he ended up at the Hotel, but The Doctor makes sure to remind him often that it is thanks to him that he's even alive.
